"little corner of my heart", acrylic, tempera paint sticks, embroidery thread, beads, hot glue, glitter glue, sequins, plastic toy, stickers, on canvas (2025) 12" x 12"

This painting started with a memory I’ve both clung to and tried to forget— a hazy recreation from the mind of a child who stood in a dark place, overwhelmed. There are things that brought me comfort and made me feel safe: sweet washes of color, stickers peeling at its edges, beautiful ponies, beads embroidered from worn dresses…While simultaneously carrying a confliction of unsaid feelings, a dozen memories fractured and sometimes consciously suppressed. To share these emotions requires revisiting wounds of mine that I

do not think could ever be fully healed, thus yearning to both nurture my inner child and hide a part of me that longs for that protection I never received.
